Tonight (19 March 2011) we witnessed a full moon over South Australia, but it wasn’t just any old full moon. It was bigger and brighter, and appeared larger as the moon made it’s closest approach to Earth in 18 years.
Scientists estimated the “supermoon” rising in the east at sunset appeared 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter at its peak. I shot this image near Nairne, in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Sky colours as seen, no enhancement.
