Lucille, Garden Ornament by Barb Leopold
Lucille Chicken is a high maintenance chook. Several weeks ago we noticed she was unwell, with her tail drooping she just sat by our back door, not eating or drinking. So a vet visit was arranged, and nearly $100 later we brought her home. She needed fluids, antibiotics and plenty of TLC. We even placed a hot water bottle in her straw nest.
I am pleased to say she is much recovered, and has resumed her place at the top of the pecking order (she chases dogs, cats and any other hapless creature who lands in her yard).
I just have one question. $100 is an awful lot of omelettes …. Miss L, do you eggspect to repay our kindness anytime soon and start laying again, or are you just an ornamental garden chook?

Worth every cent, Barb when if she looks in real life as gorgeous as she does here, although the occasional ‘Chicken Cacciatore’ whispered in her ear would probably do no harm at all.
