For anyone who doesn’t know.. this is Max.. a rescue. We got him in 2004 from the local Kennel. He had been found wandering around a nearby city. He did have a collar but no tags.
As I have gotten to know Max, it just blows my mind how anyone could throw him out, let him go.. or lose him. If he came up missing from THIS house, we would be searching everywhere until he was found. He’s an amazing dog and deserves every minute of love and joy we’ve given him.
After 7 years of “Maxie hugs” and assorted other ways of him showing love to us.. he appeared to have suffered a stroke in October 2011. By November he was almost totally blind. The decision was made and he was put to sleep on 11-25-11…. he died with my scent and touch being the last experiences of his life. What amazed me was that he NEVER gave us any trouble or worry. A being like that comes along rarely and it would be unfair to keep him alive just because we didn’t want to let go, I felt so privileged to have shared even one minute of his life and love..

My buddy Max, experimenting with the “point and shoot” camera (Fujifilm FinePix A825).

The world of dog rescue can be horribly sad, leaving you wondering how humans can be so cruel, to discard a living creature like it was an empty ice cream wrapper. Then you get the other side, where wonderful people like you adopt someone else’s ‘discard’ and discover that an absolute ‘gem’ of a dog is now in their lives. He is beautiful. :)

  • Very well said.. I just wish more people would realize that that Christmas puppy is GOING TO GROW UP.. and if you don’t take time with it when it’s young – you’re not going to be happy when it old. But.. you are so right about our “gem”.. fact is he’s sitting right next to me as I type.. just waiting for a stroke on his body…

So sorry Barb for your loss. This broke my heart but what a wonderful story and you are angels to have taken him in and given him the love he deserved. X

You are very brave to have let him go Barb, there is nothing worse than losing a member of the family as you did. However, you did what was right for him. My thankfulness goes out to you for rescuing him , and spending so much time with him as possible. He is in heaven now, looking down on you and waiting to meet up with again at some point in time.
