First, I have to tell you how we found each other. Our dog, Snickers, was in pain and had cancer. I was going to put him down that week and decided that I would go to the kennel and see if I could find another friend.
He was in the first cage.. with these marvelous eyes just watching me walk by. You can see the Shar Pei in him (those tiny ears) but there’s no way of knowing what “dad” contributed to the mix. Looked at his size and said.. no, not a good idea. But later, when I brought my husband along to take a look.. guess who fell in love. Course, I had no problem with his “choice” seeing as he was the one I wanted too, but I thought we were going “smaller” this time.
At any rate, my Max was found wandering the streets in another town and was brought to the shelter. He’d been there less than a week when we spotted him.
Who rescued who? That’s up for grabs…
But, I don’t know what it is about these stairs, every dog I’ve had living with me.. in THIS house, just kind of perches on that landing just so they can watch the world go by – and Max is no different!!
Course, he thinks I’m crazy.. trying to take a nice little picture of him watching me, watching him!!
NOTE: Regretably, Max started having health issues in 2011. By October there was very little quality left in his life, then he apparently suffered a minor stroke and lost most of his sight, which was terrifying for him. On 11-25-11, I had to put my best friend to sleep. His last breath was in my arms.. his last image was me.. his last feeling were my tears falling onto his face. He will be missed every day of my life.
I love what I do and I do what I love.. been drawing for over 60 years now – I hope I’ve got it right.

LOL! Barb I know exactly what you mean. Each and every dog loves that landing!
1-a nice warm spot in th sun
2-you can’t escape without them knowing about it.
3-They get tired of following you up and down the stairs so they just wait you out!
Excellent points all!!
