Nanook the Tiger

Nanook the Tiger

20.5×32.5 soft pastel on felt matboard. Original unavailable. Presently 3097 views

Nanook was one of the lucky ones.. Noah’s Lost Ark got him when he was a mere cub (he’s quite a big boy now.. over 300 pounds) and has lived there his whole life. Would you believe, he has allergies? Come spring, he gets a big congested and gets some very special treatment because of it.. but he’s a happy boy.
I truly hope that another message comes through.. that these animals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS.. that’s why places like Noah’s are in existence. If people would just think before they buy that cute LITTLE cub.. life would be easier on all of us especially the animals. After all.. they didn’t ask to be in the situation they are.. and there are far to many unscrupulous people out there that are in it for the money..
At least with education, we might make a little difference.. even if we save just one animal.. it’s a beginning!!
All proceeds from any sales will be donated to Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary for the care and feeding of the animals.

Completed 2003

Your astonishing work on these cats, the inventiveness of your arranging them in moving views is always a total pleasure to see. I’d love to know more about your closeness to them, you’ve said you’ve known some of these cats for years. Do you work with them? Ever get to give a hug? I know such things happen, that big cats can be best friends. Your deep affection always shows in your artistry.

In answer to your question, I’ve been going to Noah’s since 2003 (found it online and it’s only an hour away) and have reems of film on the cats and some of the other critters. I have been able to hold a 2 month old lion cub, played “give me back my glove” with a black leopard cub, held another lion cub and been able to get to know some of the cats pretty well. Also been able to touch lions, tigers and Sophie (with the owner standing right there, who showed us where and how to touch) but you don’t want to mess with the leopards.. they’re kind of a one person animal.

Nanook brings hope. Compassionate groups like Noah’s Ark work miracles in providing a decent life and tender care to abused wild creatures. Educating the public about wild creatures remaining wild is an inseparable part of decreasing the illegal pet trade.

Thank you, Barb, for adding beautiful Nanook along your important message and personal pledge to Art for Conservation.
