They held the secrets of their lands
close to their hearts and in their hands
for some 50,000 years
until the whiteys world appears
go clear the land and log the trees
as in the northern hemispheres
from a country far away
the rule, we take and you must pay
with your life if you resist
we’ll wipe you out if you persist.
Sustainably they’d lived and loved
until off the land were shoved.
We introduced the British farming
results long term are now alarming
We followed all the British rules
and blindly lived like short term fools- like open channel irrigation-
crazy in the driest nation
it caused the deserts of Iraq
the historic facts are stark.
We’ve chopped the trees, the land denuded
yet again we are deluded
We dig the guts and leave the tailings
just another of our failings
to lace the blinding dust that blows
across the land with orange glows
But technology can be our friend
and the environment defend
it can be the planet save
as with solar, wind and wave
Nature has her clever ways
observe and start a newer phase
learn to live, respect all life
we can survive, no need for strife
grow the crops that suit the land
GM products should be banned
pipe water saved from high tech wells
Ban native forests being felled
Quick fast we must adapt and change
its well within the human range
if we work on common ground
a way forward will be found

thanks so much —yes, I’m passionate about this land. Hey, yes I will send it to Garrett —but it will end up chucked into recycling before he reads it.

Barbara, this is a beautiful world and Australia is my home. It is appalling what has been happening in the name of profits and expansion. Wonderful sentiments and as Matt says an important message. Good cheers to you.
Thanks cosimopiro, what will it take, I wonder in my old age?

This is wonderful Barbara… there is a solution, if only we would fully embrace it. x
Thanks Teacup, its sad that ‘ordinary’ people know, but those at the top don’t get it. Maybe too intent on other priorities.

Thanks Teacup, some days I feel more optimistic. Actuallyy, living in ‘my’ wee jungle with wildlife its hard to be realistic. Of course it is fire liable, but so gorgeous.
Not sure how to add to my introduction, but many of the ideas were from an ex air force trained engineer, Laurie Hogan, a dear friend. He produced the “Water for Australia” plan and gave it to all governments, who have never acknowledged his research and solutions. Barbara
This was a fabulous read Barbara….you certainly have a voice and you say your thoughts with poetical eloquence me thinks…
I read with dismay about Laurie Hogan’s plan that fell upon government deaf ears…. I have heard other wonderful inventions that would be of great benefit and also reduce the impact of pollution etc ….and yep no one interested…..Does it always boil down to money and stupidity I wonder?
Oh Dear Arcadia—it does indeed seem to—. Its hard to combine enough knowledge and intelligence in one leader —impossible -hence democracy and Oh tut! not what its cracked up to be! Well we are human.
