This Christmas we should be cognizant of the spiritual meaning it represents. It is not about giving presents to ourselves and to others; after all, the three wise men were very wise indeed, but can be considered to be the first lobbyist – looking for favor from the Christ Child. Christmas should be about reflection; spiritual reflection about the direction of our lives, those who we share true friendship, family and those who have so much less than us.
There have always been a lot of pain and suffering in this world, but these days, it seems to be so much more pronounced; life and death is so much more intertwined with little empathy for our many brothers and sisters who are suffering great pain, and whose only concern is about where they will sleep, what they will eat, and what awaits them tomorrow; maybe death, or continued suffering; sometimes both.
Let us not only say a pray on Christmas day for those less fortunate, but let us be humble and have empathy in our hearts and minds going forward. Giving presents are meaningless, and are finite expressions of love, and caring; the true sentiments we should be expressing is about what Christmas represents to us spiritually.
