Bun Bang Fai
Every year around May in Laos and Northern Thailand, people get dressed up and fire off bamboo rockets to bring on the rainy season. Various groups bet against each other as to whose rocket will go the furthest and dancing, drinking, music and frivolity follows, but first the serious business. This portrait was taken in May 2008 when a group of Laos people waited for their turn to shoot their rocket into the sky.

Thanks Bruce, oh yeah he was very serious about sending his rockets into the air. They have a lot of bragging rights based on there rockets as well as a bit of cash to be won.
