Fallen Soldier

I suppose this is my submission to the outofrange challenge although it doesnt quite follow along the lines of other submissions. It was Nook’s submission which prompted me to design a t-shirt with the message i wanted to get across.
I can’t help but feel that history is repeating itself and it worries me greatly that this may be the case. in 1975 the Vietnam war was over after ultimately being lost at home as protests and riots forced governments to withdraw troops. Soldiers who had endured the worst of the worst were met not as heroes, not even as fellow human beings, they were met with disgust, a moment in history almost all are ashamed of.
Now, in the year 2007 the war in Iraq is continuing, protests are increasing and social acceptance of the war is dimishing rapidly. I did this piece in fear of what may yet happen. People are seldom unaware that their protests against the war are what lead to the illtreatment of vietnam vets upon arriving home. I can only hope that that lesson in history will protect our soldiers when they too return home.
I’m not asking people to support the war in Iraq, i simply ask that people support the troops, we need to let them know that irrespective of the politics behind the war, we support and respect our troops for the sacrifices they have made to protect the freedoms we take for granted.
The writing on the tombstone is no doubt illegible on here, quite simply it says
“The fallen soldier, who gave his life protecting the lives of those who judged him so quickly”

Seriously Bails, Your making me very proud to be associated with this whole BOBOR concept.
While you may have said that it didn`t follow the lines of the other entries, I`m glad that you have faith in your own ideas enough to go against the so-called grain. This is an amazingly strong image, and the concepts that you`ve put forward here are astute and confronting. And I for one, Love being confronted. It`s what art is supposed to do. Truely great work.
