Hi – I’m an avid/advanced, amateur photographer, compiling my works for inventory and sharing the world through my vision.
What a way to start the New Year! The Red Bubble Group, “Blooms (All Seasons Flowers)” has “featured” my work, “Albino Beehive”, on: 1/17/14! What an honor with SO Many, talented members! Thank you!
For the past 5 yrs., I’ve put out a small, themed, desk calendar, for a select few. In 2013, I was so fortunate to have my calendar carried in my first retail store; and I have a good lead on another possible chain this year; “knock on wood”! I am also honored/happy, that several of my works have garnered some attention/fetched some money, in a couple of fund-raising events too.
This past year or so, I’ve been active in some Facebook photography groups – (Helping Administrate two photography groups); and I’m popping into our local camera club when I can. I’m constantly learning and loving it! I was also blessed by my Dear Mom, with a wonderful Birthday gift of my first DSLR! (A Nikon).
A little resume/background info. about me: I got my first “really nice” (SLR) camera in 1979, from my parents, just in time for an awesome class trip to the Florida Keys. (I caught the shutter bug while there!) In the 90’s, I entered one or two photo contests, and framed my first works. Then I put things on hold a bit, until 2007; as I let “Life” – work/deaths/relationships/marriages, sidetrack me a bit.
In, in 2003, my then wonderful boyfriend/now wonderful Hubby of almost 10 years, got me my first Digital Point N Shoot Camera! (A Fuji) – which I still have & love!
In, 2009, I had my first two exhibits – one minor and one major; at: “Bishop Hills Retirement Community” in Rockford, MI; and in the largest monetary art competition in the world; Grand Rapids’ Michigan’s own, ARTPRIZE! They were fabulous experiences! I’m pleased to say that I was asked back to exhibit at: “Bishop Hills”, and my Solo Exhibit was for the month of January, 2012. (Again, a great joy!)
In May, of 2011, I was blown away to learn that my piece, “Ma’s Back Yard – Pink and Blue-Green Hues”, was featured on the “Red Bubble” home page! (Such an honor – thank you, Red Bubble powers that be!) :) In October of 2011, “Be Happy, Don’t Fret”, received 1st Place in a weekly “Speed Challenge” with a “Music” theme, in one of my specialized, photography, Face Book groups – judged by fellow Photographers. (That was a great honor as well!) In December of 2011; another one of my photos tied for 1st Place in another “FB” Group competition.
Other recognition or noteworthy events have included:
2013 – Recognized by my peers in a FB Group – “Country Style Photography” – My back-lit Mum photo was made a cover photo.
2012 – “Top 100” – (Out of over 3,000.), for my piece: “Multi-Colored Michigan” – in the “Pure Michigan Photo Contest” – Oct.-Nov.

2012 – Received a 3rd Place in a nearby town’s, (Cedar Springs, MI) – “Red Flannel Festival”; for my piece, “Skeeter” – October 2012
2009 – A top ten finish in the Red Bubble “Car Show” competition; for my work: “1957 Bel Aire Grill/Headlight – uncropped – untouched”. (Thanks so much for all that voted!) I am also pleased and honored that the same work – now titled, “Shine” – (thanks to my dear husband, Royce); received 1st Place in my local communities’ visual arts competition – 7-15-09 – “Sparta Town & Country Days” – (Adult Photography); and on: 4-22-12, the same work received a 1st Place, in a Black & White Amateur Photography Group on FB; decided upon by my peers – in a very tough competition! (I was VERY honored!) :)
2008 – Editor’s Choice Award for my work: “Kitty Alter Ego”.
2007 – 1st Place – the “Visual Arts Category” – (Adults), at: “Sparta Town & Country Days”, for my work: “Hope” – which is displayed at: www.cafepress.com/dbbeyond. I also have a new site as of April, 2013: http://deb-badtcovell.fineartamerica.com/
(I’ve also been in some competitions where I haven’t placed; and that has taught me to be a more gracious competitor).
So, “things are progressing as they should be”… This is all so thrilling – so please excuse my bragging a bit! It’s scary, and exciting, and rewarding; to work on living my dream!
I welcome any critiquing and suggestions. Please enjoy my “labors of Love”!
Thanks, and as my Dad use to say, “Stop by again, next time you’re in town”! ;)
Deb aka “Badtgirl” – Peace
