Let's build a sand castle!!!!!!!!!!!! by Brenda Dow
An early rise on a Sunday morning found me at Vanderbilt Beach. There were cooler breezes at that time of day but the sunrise was a gift to cover all discomfort. I lingered, meandering here and there, shooting this and that. When the temperature became warm and pleasant, more walkers came, first in pairs and soon in droves!!!!
Sitting in my chair enjoying this time, I watched as people carried in every kind of “beachy” paraphernalia made for enjoyment for a hot day in the sand!!!!
And then was my PRIZE for sitting in this hot sun…. a beautiful family, French speaking, with five children. Colorfully dressed in the latest beach attire, they rented a tent for some soon to be wanted shade, rented some lounge chairs, placed everything just so and then began to unpack!!!! Rubbing sunscreen on the children who immediately wanted to run to the ocean, a hat for baby, the boys with pails and shovels and the girls chirping instructions on where they should begin their sand castle.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven…. it was delightful to watch these children work on their project. From the minute that I saw this family come onto the beach I knew, in my minds eye, that I would have some wonderful shots. And I was not disappointed!!! As the children ran back and forth scattering here and there, I waited and waited. And then the little toddler with the ruffled “bum” stopped in a stance that just made me smile… actually I think I heard a laugh from inside!!!! This one is my favorite!!!! As I watched this scene, I could picture this as a PAINTING……….. and that is what I have tried to depict with my CS3.
I love the vivid colors, the playfulness of the children, the casual yet intense moment for each beautiful child.
I do hope you can see what I see………. the warmth of a perfect vacation day for this family!!!!
As I end my description of this shot, I need to add this thought…………….
may each day find you lingering over a common moment…. seeing with your heart what others are experiencing…….
