109 mile challenge..........happy feet! by Brenda Dow
Everyone has met Lindy by now, and here she is beginning her 109 mile Sled Dog Race in Eagle Lake, Maine. Tenacity and bravery were needed on this trip…. the story is exciting and shows her great will of protection and love of her dogs.
This race was a 10 dog race and the rules state that one must finish with the minimum of 8 dogs. (Owners do not loose their dogs along the way, but when a dog is tired, they can put them in the sled bag and ride them for a distance.) Lindy on this day began her race with 8 dogs so she needed to be ever more cautious of her team.
Approx. 104 miles along, Lindy had one, then two dogs stop. She did finish the race with 6 dogs but her time and effort only counted for herself, Kevin and the other racers. Safe they all were and happy and healthy today but it was a true test of vigilance and care during a night in the woods with her beloved friends.
I so admire this grand lady…. she will ride again with a few more races before her. I will try to be there and we can continue this story of a warrior woman and her pals.
Thanks Lindy for this time together….. I’ll be over in a few hours and we will take more new pups out for their first ride on a line!!!! Am I smiling yet??? You bet!!!
