Christmas Wars by

At this time of year, most of the world is celebrating the birth of the Christ child and always there is a Santa flying about but there are other traditions as well that add to the number of people so festive and happy at this time of year.
But then there is War…….. A Christmas War.
There are many families separated because of service to their country’s military. This cannot be helped in our world today. We say Peace on Earth, that would be a wonderful happening and it should be something that we hope for, to strive for.
In my travels yesterday, I remembered that the folks, Gaye and Frank Richards, from the Christmas Tree Farm made wreaths for the Veterans stones in the local cemetery. I was not disappointed in what I found…. These wreathes were so brilliant to view, against the white stones and pure white snow.
The large trees sent shadows branching out to add depth and inclusion to what lay at their mighty trunks.
Impressed? you say…. It was so touching to be there…I stood in this bitter cold with such gratitude in my heart and finding a flood of thankfulness come over me.
Thanks to all who have served, who are serving and will serve. I cannot express how proud of you that I am. Thank you for all you do.

I wrote this verse for the dearest friend…. a gift to him for his mighty service to his country. With his permission, I share this with you and hope that you can see the contrast from our lives to those who have fought for freedom!!! Life does go on……………….
-————-
War
Odorous subsequence
it goes on and on
this stench of war
of a yesterday that I left behind
lingering in my nostrils
in my mind I get the drift
turning away
wanting to run
no sleep.
Capturing a waft of something sweeter
pausing to find more
trying
clamoring
to keep it inside
for a pause
then
awaking, I realize
it was a dream
a scheme of the enemy
to keep me smothered
in this smell
no more I plead
but life goes on

About Brenda Dow

The art of collecting the interesting and intriguing things of this world and bringing excitement of the possibility of “freezing” that moment in time are the reasons that my eyes have broadened to look under and over and in between the winds of the nights and the lights of the days…… Come walk beside me and we can be the “sunshine” for this season in time……….. just walk beside me…………..
