'Still On Guard'
The sun goes down on the only remaining English Electric Lightning at the former RAF station at Binbrook, Lincolnshire, UK.
Binbrook’s Lightnings provided quick reaction cover for UK airspace during the Cold War, and the Squadrons based there were the last to operate the type.
Lightnings were retired from RAF service at the end of the 1980s. RAF Binbrook closed down upon their retirement.

Badd, that is a wonderfully emotive image. My father was stationed at Binbrook for twelve years, left in ‘72. I have fond memories of the Lightnings, Canberras and even Meteors as a child. Took him to Hendon last month, found one of the old squadron Lightnings there.
Great work.
Cheers
