A follow up sneak preview
It’s still very much a work in progress … but we’ve been listening to a bunch of feedback and thinking about what we want to achieve with the MyBubble page (challenging our assumptions). This version of the design still enables us to introduce the important concepts of a subscription and group news … but still retains the ‘feed’ feel of the current design (and is a better design in my opinion). This design would allow full configuration of the feed – we’re still to work out how this interface will work …
As an interesting note, only 12% of our current members have made any configuration of the current MyBubble page …
One of the things I like about this design is that it’s presenting a visually simpler activity feed … it feels a little lighter … which is one of the things I’d like to achieve.
If it looks broken in IE please go and buy a mac and try it in safari (it’s still a work in progress) ;-)

Change is always hard Peter, but it has this underlying sense of power and strength, like some beast waiting to leap out… the possibilites this layout could offer….you could have moveable panes..imagine a quick vid linkup to your buddy…webcam thingy..just the feel of it feels more powerful and open ended …
Tracey Mac
Looks cool…and much better without the huge thumbs along the bottom…..I like :)
Mel Brackstone
Shows how vocal the minority can be…..lol! Good on ya Peter :)
BackStage at RB replied
The vocal minority cause us to ask questions … to challenge our own thinking … which is a good thing (if our thinking is sound we’ll hold our ground). So much of the previous design reflected the way that I like to engage with a site … when I polled a few of the team here they tended to agree with the feedback … so I figured it was time to re-think a little. It’s not just a site for me!
WendyJC
looks very impressive!
Jane Keats
Ah, yes I think it is moving in the right direction!
ChainmailChick
I like that one a LOT better than the first. =)
Even though it says it doesn’t work in IE yet and maybe I’m not seeing everything, LOL. =)
Tracy Wallace
Now this looks very cool.
John Robb
IMHO looking better – to the point where I have to think much harder about any drawbacks. About the only possibility would be to make the font/layout on the right parts smaller and match that on the left main feed.
Alison Johnston
Looking a lot better IMO – can’t see a link for Journal entries though :(
BackStage at RB replied
They’ll be there …
Helene Kippert
Definitely better than the first one!
ChainmailChick
Or for writing. [pouts] =)
ChainmailChick
Oh, I take that back. I see it. =)
japu
That’s really cool! But I hope the graphic style will be better ;)
Lisa Kenny
this is much easier to look at ~ it doesn’t hurt my eyes ;)
....but I don’t see a Journal or Art Tab ?
BackStage at RB replied
They’ll be there … it’s just a mock up at this stage …
DesImages
Looks neater and less confusing than ther earlier version. Works fine with Firefox :)
Faizan Qureshi
Other than the logo being that strange colour, I think I almost love it :-)
Jenny Brice
Looks much more user friendly and organised.
Mel Brackstone
As long as it’s customisable, (is that a word?) I’ll be happy with whatever you do.
Karin Taylor
ok that’s real pretty and let’s me still have the feeling of a list
I love the fonts
Clean and not too wordy or pictury
If I were goldilocks, I would say ‘this feels just right’
Damian Harding
BTW you dont need a mac to use safari, it runs on PC’s as well :P
BackStage at RB replied
what’s a pc? ;-)
georgiegirl
Well I like it. Nice and clean, easy to navigate!! Faizan’s right… the logo is all wrong. Don’t change your logo!! Got to be the one we have now. Well done RB Elves :D
Darren Stones
Keep listening to the people and take onboard the parts of the feedback you believe will help the site grow. It’s way to easy to get wrapped up in comments from backslappers. :)
HenkStolk
looks cool, even on a Windows PC :)
Darren Stones
I prefer an uncluttered and simple look to the my bubble page. The less graphics, the better.
Roz McQuillan
Yay, I like this one better. But where are the Challenges?
Tama Blough
Much better – missing Favorites and Watchlist but I’m sure you’ll stick those in. Thanks for listening to us – we’re not all just a load of complainers, you know?
Mary Campbell
If it looks broken in IE please go and buy a mac and try it in safari (it’s still a work in progress) ;-)
Wish I could afford one, but I’m stuck with a PC with Windows.. such is life!
Damien Mason
Looking fantastic Peter, although I’m a bit disappointed since my name is neither “Firstname” or “username”.. when will you fix that bug??! Until you do, I HATE IT! AND I HATE YOU!
thickblackoutline
damn that makes me wish i didn’t see it in FF so i COULD indeed go and buy a mac! ;)
although i liked the other one, this is even better :)
thickblackoutline
lol damien!!
Matt Simner
Yep – bigger tick this time :)
Definitely the right choice to go with the configuration now – it will open so many possibilities, and will compel people to actually use it (as they’ll be able to get everything they want to see from one page).
Good luck :)
Martin Jones
Much better! PC users can download a version of Safari for the PC from the Apple website for free, so no need to shell out on expensive kit!
Dorothy Venter
I can live with this, thank you.
kalaryder
I’ve just found the configure mybubble button – with the drop down list I use now – missed that before
Sleek Images
Like it much more than the last one…
SD Smart
“As an interesting note, only 12% of our current members have made any configuration of the current MyBubble page …”
Theres a configure mybubble button already? Where?!
BackStage at RB replied
yes … it’s a very well hidden feature. when you select an individual feed you have the option to add or remove it from your favourite feeds – look to the top right of the page
Dorothy Venter
I have looked but cannot find the dropdown list with the configure MyBubble button. Please help us dummies and tell us where to look.
Squealia
That looks much much better. Much more pleasing! Now just a quick comment where is the configure mybubble button? Never seen one and I just went looked and even looked in edit my profile and it is not obivious!
I have a couple of questions!:
Will we still be able to click on the same things on my bubble as we can now? IE:-
bubblemail
bubblesite
promote
favorites
watchlist
journal
calendars
writing
t-shirts
art
account
groups
overview
added to a watchlist
comments on my work
group moderation of my work
my work featured in a group
my work removed from challenge
new work from my watchlist
people favoriting my work
replies to my comments
sales of my work
challenge events
As I like having those links!
That’s about it! I like the new look and I like that you can add forum threads to your overview page, if you are following something!
Now the only other things I personally would like is a link to the groups I host as when you need to moderate the quickest way I seem tobe able to go there is view my public profile and scroll down and click on the group at the top of my groups list.
Also as others have mentioned, it would be lovely tobe able to delete stuff from our activity lists once we had viewed/commented/favourited/replied etc!
Lori Walton
This one looks like a winner!!! Good job guys!
Melinda Kerr
Looks good to me. It’s a hard road usability and I reckon you’ve done well.
Russell Greenwood
The the ‘Configure MyBubble’ button is the last of the Quick Links on the right side of the page – where you’ll find some of the mockup options for now.
Also most of this mockup should be fine in Firefox 3 on PC or Mac as well as Safari. (But pretty broken + ugly at the moment in IE, so please just getfirefox )
Paul Gitto
Looking better, the quick links area eats a lot of real estate, does it need it?
How about 3 columns vs 2? less scrolling would be needed.
barnsis
Looks much better, maybe a comprimise with the quick links and go half size between what they are now and the new size. I think many members are not aware what the links do so maybe a more descriptive title.
Ann Rodriquez
Just one thing…I think it’d be better if ‘piece (of art)’ was spelled properly. LOL
Looks good, good improvements!
Squealia
Oh sorry to be a real pain in the a**e, but just looking yet again…..
The activity feed on the left – will that have everything on it? Everything that my watchlist have done all mixed in with what’s happening to my work?
That is ok so long as I can single out stuff like new work from people in watchlist, people commenting on my stuff etc etc!
Susan Epps Oliver
Much better :)
ChainmailChick
For those looking for the way to configure their current mybubble page:
go to your overview page, and look at your list under Favorite Feeds/Other Feeds.
When you click on the actual feed, for example, comments on my work, there will be a link in the righthand corner of the ‘box’ the activity’s is listed in that says either ‘remove this from your favorite feeds’ or ‘add this to your favorite feeds’.
Click on it to do whichever you want. If you remove it, you won’t see activity from it on your main overview page, you’ll have to click on the link for it to view just the activity for it.
If you add, you will see any activity from it interspersed with whatever else you have under your ‘favorite feeds’ section.
=)
ChainmailChick
BTW, I’d just like to tell you of the staff ‘Thank you’.
There are far too many sites dependent on their membership for content and profits that forget ‘listening’ was an important part of their early growth and success.
You’ve obviously not forgotten that.
So, THANK YOU for listening and making us feel like we’re all important to the Bubble and not just a bunch of numbers providing content.
It’s extremely appreciated. :)
Faizan Qureshi
Just remembered something I have been meaning to mention….
I’d like to see new journals and new works being separated in their own feeds…
Shelley Heath
I really like this version of MyBubble it is a vast improvement on the first version, as it really is an overview without unnecessary bells and whistles.
Having said that I would like the ability to delete items that I have acknowledged and dealt with, so I know where I am up to each time I view it.
ChainmailChick
Ooh, that would be nice, Faizan. Good suggestion.
And having that delete ability Shelley (and others) have requested might actually work to get people more active with commenting, etc, because it’s a sort of personal ‘progress’ marker, if that makes any sense? =)
Debbie Black
definitely better than version 1!
SandraRos
Thank you for listening that means such a lot. Change is horrible and I like the old style because that is familiar and I know where I want to go. I suppose we will get use to this in the end as it seems there is no stopping this from happening. LOL just an old hag moaning
Nancy Polanski
Short of leaving it the way it was….you have accomplished what I was hoping for. The changes you’ve made are really very much better. Add my name to the list of members who appreciate your willingness to “listen” and accomodate.
This layout is going to be easier to live with than the previous model. I’m especially anxious to see how it will look when I configure it to my needs. I would like to see, as mentioned above, slightly less “white space” (wasted space) and darker letters under New Stuff. Gray on white just seems wrong. I can’t see it as well. I have opened a new tab so I can pop back and forth between the current layout and the new proposed one. The current one is just so much easier to read. Could you fix that please on the new one??
Also, under New Stuff, the current layout allows for about 25 items. Will the new one? Because right now there are only about 15.
And will there just be two buttons (newer and older) or will we be able to skip back multiple pages of activity with a single click, like we can now? Since I usually get to check activity only once a day, I like that I can back up 4 or 5 pages at a time.
Again, thank you for being open to our requests.
D R Moore
Excellent work on this, I can’t wait to see this implemented into the site.
SusanSanford
Favorites and watchlist? Am I missing something?
Soxy Fleming!
mac and safari? sometimes I think I’m the only one here with them!
RiSH :
This one looks better than the ‘previous concept with bigger thumbnails’.

Love the lengthier my activity feed.
Regarding the icons of the activity feed, they all look excellent except the sales. I think it will better if you use golden/yellow dollar icon instead.
Also if somebody uploads a new work, instead of just using plus icon, i would love to see following icons for different types of work,
art – framed photo (you already have such icon)

t-shirt – a t-shirt icon
journal – a notepad type icon
writing – a new page type icon with may be a pen
calendar – a google candar type icon
also for features and challenge win use separate icons … like ….
challenge launched … white chess piece …
or arrow aim icon … like …
![]()
for group feature … you can use ,,,, a badge icon …
or
for challlenge win (new kind of feed) ... you can use medal icon …
Here we didnot see any suggested image or group images like earlier, which i liked … dont use word like “you may also like this image” but use “Some artwork by some artist” or “some redbubble groups” ... you can use the following format you already use … like here which you use in showing featured art and t-shirt.
Kimberley Davitt
when this has been completed will the users like myself who are not able to access it be able too
If it looks broken in IE please go and buy a mac and try it in safari (it’s still a work in progress) ;-)
I too like /mary am not in a position to update my system nor do I want to, but will this mean that the people who do will no longer be able to use this?
Thanks
wildlife-appeal
it does look better..however you will have to make it work for IE, i for one like the majority use IE, and i seriously doubt we will go out and buy a mac, or use another browser..what will more then likely end up happening, is we leave the site
and ditch those icons, they make the page look cheap..our bubble should look as professional to us as it would be an outsider looking in
wildlife-appeal
darn!! on wrong username! LOL
CLiPiCs
just one question
can we please have a button to suppress certain things, like when you add one image to twenty groupd, can you then get rid of the confirmations as you get them, ?
Love ‘N’ Laughter

Lorraine Parra...
looks fine to me, but would really like a delete for activity feed, it’s difficult to remember where I last got to! cheers, Lorraine

Why not have the Quick Links in the Overview, My groups bar on the right of the Bubblemail as icons only. That way they are always available and don’t eat up so much page space. When a users hovers over the icons display a short message what the icon does.
Having icons and text to the right explaining what they do looks a bit silly. Icons should be self explanatory.
By the way the Edit and View your public profile are mixed.
Heather Hartkamp
Looks classy! All I would like is the list of groups I belong to to be in alphabetical order – I nearly go nuts on my edit page trying to find the group I’m looking for.
AnaCBStudio
I just saw this journal…:)...it looks great no…good job!
AnaCBStudio
opsss…sorry…I meant “it looks great now”...good job!
Peter Martin
very facebookish – has the potential to become as addictive.. :)
waitin' for rain
looks interesting ! can’t wait to see “Hi Stran9e” !!!!
CPTurner
Well on the surface of it it looks a very clean interface, I suppose there may be a few issues come up when a few people start using it and properly experiencing it. Will it be released on BETA?
A couple of things I would like to see on mybubble pages;
active competitions in your subscribed groups
bubble mail – it would be better for the recent mails to be at the top of the page, rather than the bottom
Preview function – it would be good to be able to preview your profile, art writing journal etc.. before making it public, just so that you can be sure that the text formatting has worked :)
looks good though, cant wait to start using it :)
BackStage at RB replied
I think the most recent conversations are at the top of the list on the left hand side …
Vonnie Murfin
Will we ever be able to restore our pictures if accidently deleted?
BackStage at RB replied
This is difficult and not something we can generally do as it depends as to whether we’ve cleaned up the disk space … so it’s hard to guarantee …
CPTurner
The most recent person appears on the left, but the messages from that person appear oldest at the top. – hope that makes sense :)
Proust
I like its basic design
A few things missing: their is a tag for Art but nothing for writting or is that included in a subpage of Art. I think it should be a separate tag on top.
I’d like better sort capabilities: to be able to sort my works by group entered in so only those works show up. I’d like to be able to also sort comments by member name and recent art by member name. For comments, it would be nice to be able to show all not replied to, and only comments from a certain date (so I could pull up only those from the last week, or month) they appear to be timestamped so I don’t think it would be too hard to sort that way.
Other than that I think its a nice layout.
