Obsession

Around the ancient spool he spins, the telling of great lies. Of debauchery and mystery and wicked little ties, the candle light, not so bright, and shadowed on his face; he stares so deep into your mind, your heart begins to race.

Around the ancient spool he leaps, and dances in the din. Your madness is a game to him, to play with in the end. He sees through you, and knows you bend, and relishes you fear, and plays upon your heartstings, because you hold them dear.

You find yourself oblivious and and deep set in despair. The thought to live without him leaves you breathless in the air, though he chews you up, and spits you out, and slaps you in the face. You can’t resist, you run to him, praying that you won’t fall. But fall you do, it’s inevitable, He’s already in your soul. Because the love of him, is ever more, your only saving grace.

Beautifully written Leslie, we all have an obsession about something or obsess about something once in our lives. The image you’ve put with it is increadibly beautiful even at its late life stage. Well done!

Thank you very much for the very flattering compliment. This is a work that I started writing years ago, but I think over the years it has changed in its meaning to me. But no matter how many years pass by this will always hold a special place in my heart.

Often ponder obsessions. I believe that at the depth of most is a really powerful and pure energy. The trick is to look deep enough into others to be aware as to what is act and what is essence. To not support the act but to also never lose sight of the essence.

  • Leslie Hagen replied

Isn’t that the obsession? How do you separate the two? The essence is the obsession which leads you to act. It would take an amazingly strong person to control these. I feel most are weak. I dunno, maybe I’m too cynical

A very complex topic. I think if a person really has belief in their own essence that they appreciate the beauty in externals but realise they don’t need the external to be fulfilled.

Absolutely right-on. And the frozen, dry, dead rose is perfect.
