My George

My George belongs to the following groups:

Animal Kingdom, Live, Love, Dream: , Rescued Pets, Students and Beginners and Vibrant and Vivid Color

George is my friend. He is my companion. He rescued me, and not the other way around. They say God acts in ways that we don’t always understand; well, that is most certainly the truth when it comes to my big, fat, orange tabby.

The day we met was during a time in my life when I had no one. I was working a job I hated, and failing miserably at. I was at an emotional all time low. My apartment was on the first floor, and I had patio doors that faced the courtyard. It was one of my very few days off; because this job required me to work almost seven days a week, and it seemed that I could never escape it. George, who was a stray, came by my patio and walked right into my apartment. I was in the kitchen and didn’t see him enter. The next thing I knew, he was sitting peacfully on my kitchen counter, looking right at me. It was as if he knew me, and was there to say “you are not alone.”

The rest of the day, he followed me around. If I went outside, he came with me. If I walked into the bathroom, he came in with me. It didn’t matter that I left the patio doors open for him to leave at anytime. By the end of the night, before I turned in for bed, I walked to the patio doors and said, “I am going to bed now, so you may want to leave.” He looked at me with his giant, orange eyes, turned around and went straight into my bedroom; hopped onto my bed and curled into a tight orange ball.

At that moment, I knew he was mine, and that I was his. The next day I had to go to work. Now, you will probably find this a little insane, but before I left for work I asked him what his name was. The very next thing I knew, the name George popped into my head. From then on, that was his name. He has never answered to anything else. But when I say George, he looks at me, or he comes to me. Except for when he is ignoring me, but I know he hears me because his ears turn.

George has been with me almost 3 years now, and is still just as faithful as he was the first day we met. I am having a lot of physical problems, and the doctors think I may have MS. There are day’s when I cannot get out of bed, and the pain I sometimes feel is excruciating. Two nights ago, I must have been crying in my sleep, because when I woke up; there were giant semi dried tears in my eyes. George stayed with me all night. he curled up next to my head and placed his head on my hand. I could feel his warm, soft fur on my skin and it comforted me. He was purring. Anyone who says cats are selfish creatures are terribly mistaken. They are warm and sensitive, and extremely selfless.

He makes me laugh, ke keeps me warm, and for one of the few times in my life he has made me understand what it is to truly love someone other than myself. I cannot do enough for him and he is exeedingly spoiled. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dearest Leslie that was a most inspiring and loving story. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I have always believed that they are here for us, unconditionally, always and forever and can bring more joy to our lives than can be imagined…if we just open our hearts to them.
Cats are awesome creatures and I’m so glad that you and George found each other and that he is able to support you in your time of need. I know our precious furs certainly keep me going when the going gets tough. Hugs and prayers and I hope your health improves. xo

Thank you so much for reading my story. This was written about 8 months ago, but a few things have changed. I am in a better place personally and professionally, but the doctors still don’t know what is causing all the pain. George is still my 1st love and best companion, even when I insist on adopting all of these new animals. He handles it with quiet grace. But there are times when he won’t let any of the other ones around me. He is the A male, and it trancends species.
The others leave him alone. Penny will harrass him a little bit, but never for very long. I never knew how the dynamic of several animals would change the pecking order. It is fasanating to watch. Anyhow, thank you for your kind attention to my story. I am happy that you liked it. I loved writing it, and still get teary eyed when I read it. All the best, Leslie
