Vesak Day 2011: Ven Kudagala Kovida chants (Australian Buddhist Vihara)

Venerable Kudagala Kovida chanting at the Australian Buddhist Vihara on Vesak Day 2011. Vesak Day celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. After the procession, monks, nuns, meditators and devotees gathered in the meditation hall to chant, meditate and pray.

I have often sat for long hours in meditation retreats, observing silence, my breath, the thoughts that come and go. On this special occasion and because Ven Kovida was returning to Sri Lanka a few days later, I felt it was important to capture a photo whilst he was chanting and praying. Sitting on a cushion right behind him, this is what I saw. Buddha, Buddha, monk, all in one.

Captured Saturday 7th May 2011 with little Canon IXUS 700, no flash compulsory, a very low mini Manfrotto tripod. I had to estimate the direction of the capture as I could not see the LCD screen.
