Hi. Sorry I’ve not been about much recently but have been focussing on other things including spreading my work onto other outlets but hope to spend a bit more time back on RB now.…

Away from photography I have had mixed health and am recovering from a minor operation to remove a cyst from my lower abdomen that is going to take a few weeks to fully heal and is restricting me from getting out.

On a far more positive note Last September after putting it off for way too long I decided that a life change was needed to halt my ever growing waistline so I joined a slimming club. Since then I have lost 6 stone 12 pounds (96 pounds), dropped 5 trouser sizes and feel great. I still want to loose a bit more weight and have a target in mind but will be keeping that to myself for the time being!

Facebook Group

There is a group now on Facebook called In Focus that Steve Smith and I run that is designed as a meeting place for members of POD’s to share ideas and generally visit to support each other. New ideas are shared as well as general social discussions on photography related subjects.

The group has over 100 members in the 3 weeks it has been running for and is designed for artists of various levels who have the common goal of offering their work on POD’s.

It is a closed group to allow for good management of membership and to ensure that the threads remain on track and of a positive nature.

If you want to join then feel free to bubble mail either Steve or me.

Look forward to seeing you there and reading your contributions.

Three days ago I wrote a journal announcing my new website and this got me thinking about marketing myself to a wider audience. I already use Twitter to gain more exposure and feel this is an important step so I decided to expand on this method.

After much consideration I have now uploaded this to link with my ongoing marketing strategy.

I hope this gives you food for thought on how to market yourselves.

Website Launched

Following on from my journal about promoting yourself I have launched my website

I was talking with some fellow togs on another POD and all of us have agreed to collaborate and as a result of this we all have a Photographers Directory on our personal websites. There is not direct competition as we all live in different parts of the UK and / or shoot different genres of photography. As we now operate in a virtual world and where travel takes us further afield we all feel that it is an opportunity.

Letters To The Council

These quotes are allegedly from tenants to housing departments requesting maintenance attention of various sorts. If you see something else in the words, that’s entirely down to your own interpretation.…

“I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off.”

“I wish to complain that my father hurt his ankle very badly when he put his foot in the hole in his back passage.”

“Their 18 year old son is continuously banging his balls against my fence.”

“I wish to report that tiles are missing from the roof of the outside toilet and I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them off.”

“The lavatory seat is cracked, where do I stand?”

“I am writing on behalf of my sink which is coming away from the wall.”

“Will you please send someone to mend the garden path. My

Camera For Sale

I have a great little compact digital camera for sale. It is unbranded but is super quick and the auto focus is one of the best I have even seen!

Due to an accident whilst out taking pictures I am unfortunately in hospital at the moment but if any of you are interested then please let me know.

So you can judge for yourselves about the cameras performance I have posted a link to the very last image I took before my accident.

The last picture

There Is Always One

We have all been here whilst taking pictures. You survey the scene, look for the right point of view, consider the light and conditions… Set the camera to give the optimum exposure and depth of field.

Once into position, one final check… yes perfect. Camera to eye, half press the shutter release, auto focus kicks in.. slowly depress the button all the way and at the very moment the shutter opens……..

This Happens

There is always one!

How Do You Promote Yourself?

Its coming up to a year since I became active here on Redbubble and I guess like many users here I naively thought that if I uploaded work the site would do the rest. My “job” was to upload, make sure my description and keywords were good and the sales would roll in.…

I enjoyed being part of the community here, I had a job and a decent occupational pension so the sales would be a little extra but it was more an ego boost than about making money. I was so green, to an extent I still am however over the last couple of months I have been considering the question of promoting myself more.

I have started to be more proactive locally, getting my name known more using business cards and speaking to local businesses. This is fine but how to measure whether this is leading to interest in my work

Seasons Greetings

I know its still a little early but I just want to wish you all a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

I also want to thank you for following my work and for all your wonderful comments I have received since becoming active on Redbubble.

Your work has inspired me and made me take a critical but constructive look at my work which has in turn made me review my work flows and composition style.

Thanks to you all and I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work in the new year.

Computer Processor Efficiency

Not sure how many of you are aware that even if your windows computer has dual or more processor cores they may not all be working as often the factory default is set for single core operation. To check and configure you computer it is easy by following the below steps.
Click START and in the ‘search programs and files’ box type in msconfig and hit the return key.
This brings up a menu titled System Configuration.
Click on the ‘Boot’ tab and then Advanced options which opens a sub box ‘ BOOT Advanced Options’.
In the top left corner is a check box, click into this and this will activate the drop down immediately below, use the down arrow and this will tell you how many cores are in your processor, highlight the maximum number of cores shown (1,2,4 etc) and then click the OK button. This c…
