“My body is as much a medium as the camera the that captures it. One obvious common thread in my work is myself as the model the performer the subject the photographer. This has become a diary of my subconscious living dreams. This diary like many has been private for some time. It has taken a great deal of trust in humanity to open it up to you. “-Velia
Some verdant, fluid time is dream
More myth or fairy-tale than place
Where, perhaps, this mirror’s light
May yet confound perspective, fold
Flight from reason’s metered dance,
An inspiration composition cannot hold.
Fix, instead, within her photos’ vivid hold
Clouded gowns to dress the dream.
Ancient ruins may sustain the dance
As Salome, she trails her knotted veils to place
Among the buds of spring her nascent fold:
Whispers blazing as from angels’ light.
Just as trilling bird may light
Within her shattered rooms to hold
Fast Athena’s crumpled tunic’s artful fold,
Embrace with eager gaze this living dream.
Dare to play in Velia’s magic place
Tunes by which to join her joyful dance.
For what so artfully becomes this maiden’s dance
So full composed? What latent torch may light
Aflame ambitions to escape this somber place?
Motion’s pose unclothed alone can hold,
Sculpting photo’s plain thus raised, released to dream
Compelled, defying fickle bluff to fold.
Emerging thus from gauzy fabric’s fold
Form and color wrest from shadow’s dance
Fairest visions, crafted by her dream.
Gestures animate and manifest the light
Made radiant in nature’s hold.
Embrace you then, imagination. Grant it proper place.
Walls, you converge. Halt, descend and place
In stairway corners limbs that fold
Upon themselves to loose oppression’s hold.
This violence, this frenzy of the dance
Casts in forests’ dappled, spinning light
Invented struggles such as only sisters dream.
For dream, it breathes within this place.
The light abounding cannot fold away.
To dance in flame, its heat we cannot hold.
