The Theatre of Pergamon was built in the 3rd century and had a capacity for 10000 viewers. The Akropolis of Pergamon is located on a hill near the modern city of Bergama in western Turkey. From the 8th century BC aeolian Greeks settled here, later in the 4th century BC. the city was under control of generals of Alexander the Great.
During the Pergamon Dynasty under Eumenes I. 263-241 BC the city was famous as important centre of science. 133 BC Pergamon became captital of the province Asia as part of the Roman Empire.
