Tomb of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi in Konyaby Jens Helmstedt
“When you see my funeral don´t say: What for a separation. It is time for me to meet the lover…”
Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, the great islamic mystical philosopher, who lived and taught in 13th century in the city of Konya in Middle Anatolia, Turkey, died on December 17 in the year 1273. This day is named as “Şeb-i-Arus”, what means literally translated “wedding night”. Every year December 17 is a special day in Konya, when hundreds of people come together at the tomb of Mevlana to speak “Dua” (petitionary prayer).
I very much admire the work of RUMI, his poetry and philosophy. I am glad to see that today, people are rediscovering one of the world’s greatest poets and philosopher.
I hope to pay some homage to him by doing some paintings in the future from his writings. He shall never be forgotten.
Thanks for your comment Solomon – your words are right! Nice to hear that you like his poetry and philosophy. It is wonderful and timeless!
I listen to some of his work in audio, read by Deepak Chopra.
Very few writers can match anything by Rumi…and that is true for most of the Persian writers as well. Persian writers it seem, mastered the art of writing very early in civilization, and its startling the depth of emotions captured in their verses.
You´re right about early persian writers. Rumis work was written in Persian, because the persian language was used for poetry and also official documents during late middle age under the Rum Seljuks in this region.
