During 16th century under the reign of Ottoman Sultan Süleyman, known in Turkey as Kanuni Sultan Süleyman and in Europe as Suleyman the Magnificent, the military, political, economic and cultural power of the Ottoman Empire was growing.
Sultan Süleyman became famous for the reconstruction of the Ottoman law, the conquests of Rhodos, on the Balkan and in the Middle East and for his support of art and architecture. His wife Roxelana (Hürrem Sultan) is wellknown because of her intrigues and power over the Sultan. Their son Selim II. became Ottoman Sultan after Süleymans death 1566.
