I’ve been feeling typographically inspired over the last few days, so i decided to apply that inspiration and come up with a new font.

Type Neue is a bit of an extension from another font I was working on a few months ago, but i feel this one came out much better than the previous attempt.

I tried to blend some aspects of classic font design with some modern, minimal design elements to form fairly simple, curvy letter forms.

At this stage, i’m not completely satisfied with all the letter forms. I would love to hear some feedback from everyone. Let me know what you think works, and what doesn’t work. Be as critical as you like!

A closer look is essential to see some of the detail.

Enjoy!

I really like it on the whole… but I’m not too keen on a few of the characters – the s, v, x and the z. I think they are too different from the rest of the face really.
I think the weight of the lines need to be thicker to match the rest of the letters and as I’m sure you already know; there’s no getting away from the fact that the ‘z’ looks too much like a ‘3’ – in my humble opinion that is…. what do I know? ;-)

Could the face work when the green elements are solid black?

  • Yeah, the ‘s’ and ‘v’ are the letters i’m mainly unhappy with. There’s always a couple that prove to be a nuisance, especially since most the fonts i’ve designed have strict style/shape/spacing rules, so it makes it hard for particular letters to exist within those rules.

I think the ‘v’ can be fixed up easy enough, the ‘s’ will take some work. I don’t mind the ‘x’, and i think it won’t stick out as much if the ‘s’ and ‘v’ are improved. As for the ‘z’, it does look a 3, but that’s what a script style ‘z’ looks like more or less, and that’s the style i was basing it off. I’m happy enough with it, and considering i’ll only be using this font for heading purposes, the likely hood of actually ever needing to use a ‘z’ is pretty low!

As for changing the colour to black, it can kind of work, but it doesn’t look so good. I won’t ever use the font for copy, so as a heading style, the colours are acceptable.

    Thanks for the feedback!

great type – has an eclectic feel. I kind of like the quirks. They give the designer ising th font something to play with. Very well done. It is a lot of work developing a typeface

This is cool Alex. It has got some great characters in it and some awsome quirks. My only concern is the blue circles as you could not use them in a working font. They look really cool but I would lose them so you could build it. Cash money!!! Also I think you need to tinker with the weight of some of the letters so they look more balanced as a whole….All in all Alex great typeface keep them coming!!!

This is some great work. I don’t mind any of the letters but I struggle a bit with the k, it’s the only place you’ve used the circular iconography in a place which isn’t always circular. Everyone writes a lowercase k differently, and because the black bit could almost be an h it makes it a bit misleading. If you wrote a word like ‘kill’ it’s probably look like ‘hill’. Other than that it’s a sterling job. I wish I could find time to try and make a typeface.

  • Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! I see what you mean about the K. It’s been a while since i’ve looked at the font, I’m still am not happy with a few of the characters… especially the ‘S’. I think i might load it up when i get home and make some of the changes everyone’s suggested. My problem is that I find time to start fonts, but not finish them….

    Thanks again mate.
