A black and white 5.
For the Sagmeister Happy self portrait challenge.
I have a mixture of things in my life that make me happy, and sad. Design, music, and friends are among the things that make me happy, and it was these things that were in my thoughts while designing this piece.
I tried to design to a theme of black and white; not overly happy, not overly sad, half/half, up/down. The piece manifested itself as an ink painting from a photo, with some editing and layering added after scanning it in.
The piece looked gloomier than i had intended, so i added in some subtle colour into the black areas to suggest that darkness is not always an abyss.
Enjoy :)

right eye! just compared with original sketch, sneaky. looks great but the top of your sleeve is a bit odd, ambiguous, looks like a smudge cos we can’t see the rest of it…
