Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, SOUTH AFRICA
This is Felix, a young and very cheeky Caracal, which is a medium sized cat native to most places in Africa. The word caracal comes from the Turkish word “karakulak”, meaning “black ear”. We viewed Felix at the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness and Rehabilitation centre, just outside Plettenberg Bay in the Garden Route area of South Africa. This is a really awesome place and allows you to get right up close to lots of the lesser seen Wild cats of Africa like the Caracal, Serval and African Wild Cat (As well as Leopard and Cheetah, although not too close to the leopard :P) in very good, semi natural style enclosures. This place was so good we went back a second time, and the Caracal quickly became my favourite animal of the trip. They are just too cute.
