At the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town and also part of a series of people elsewhere occupied with a cell phone.
At the coffee shop where similar shapes on the wall are repeated on the frosted glass.

great capture aweful. lovely soft tones. the two shapes on the wall steal the attention away from her a bit though but i am a notorious cropper…. ;-))
Funny you should say that. I deliberately emphasised the two figure shapes on the wall because I thought it added to her expression. (I have also added another picture at the same shop since your comment)
I like this Faul, love the figures on the wall and feel they add a lot to this!
Thanks a lot. Perhaps it would have worked better with angels or those ceramic ducks.
definitely now ducks! lol. don’t get me wrong. i think the shape behind her is marvellous and adds to the pic. my point is, if you crop (about square size) the emphasis of the picture is on the lady interacting with her phone, if you leave it, it’s on the two shapes interacting with the lady. but as i said, i am a notorious and rigorous cropper and not everyone likes a close crop. so i hope you don’t think my comments offensive, they are not meant that way, more as a statement that this pic stimulated my imagination and got my picture editing energies flowing…;-))love your second shot btw
Oh no! I don’t mind at all. In fact, a comment of more than three words of praise (irrespective of the exclamation marks) are much more valuable. Initially I wanted to say that I try my best to crop when I take the picture and seldom do so after. But then I remembered this and how it started a whole new way of looking. I also alter reality, lie and steal with my eyes.
Thought of you when I played with this and even cropped it a little bit.
… chuckles at Moyo’s crop comments, and your replies ;)
I’m with you, Faul, I would have included the two ‘wall ladies’ as well (or a trio of ceramic ducks, hehe!) to give the image two ‘stories’ … and my eye is also wanting to know what’s around that corner?? ;) …I do understand what Moyo means though too :)
ps. enjoying your wit too ;)
Now that I look at it again I wonder if the outside isn’t a bit distracting. (Moyo wanted to crop from the bottom right, I think) I have already removed the sign from the shop but could have it ‘greyed out’ a bit more. Well, I might play a bit with another one I took while having coffee there.
I don’t find the ‘outside’ distracting at all, gives a sense of where the lady is – out shopping (stopped to take the call/make a call) or at her fave cafe for example. Personally I think it adds to the image, not detracts :)
ok, awe, now you got me. you know i love your waterfront series. i stole a few off you hoarding them in my favorites gallery. it makes me chuckle actually reading that you thought of me when cropping the new picture. i think that new one really needs both shapes, besides, you cropped it really perfectly.;-))
Thank you. I do like to hang around the Waterfront a lot. I did a calculation and saw that the pictures tagged with vawaterfront make up almost 40% of all my pictures but I post just a fraction of those that I play with. (I gave up trying to predict which ones will be popular and try to make grouping instead)
