I have noticed that women with children have a much better memory of the years. While the holidays in Hermanus fade together for men, in a couple of years she would say something like, “Oh I remember it was 2010 because little Liza was two and still in nappies.” That was very different from the previous year when she pushed a pram around.
As this family passed me I noticed the complicated ritual of gathering them together to cross the street safely even when there are not many cars in that part of Hermanus, a town about 100 km from Cape Town.
That was before I started thinking about composing a picture against the light that would show the hair and signs with detail in the shadow. Three quick handheld exposures with tone mapping in Photoshop CS5 Merge to HDR Pro gave this result. Oh, and don’t forget the Ghost removal feature that allow me to think about HDR and candid together.

Just behind them I took another selective colour picture:

The picture is also part of a series of Colour and B&W

Digital photography is doing for photography what the piano did for keyboard music. You can still play music composed for the harpsichord on the piano but not the other way around.
