A typical street scene at Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, where the Oak trees in winter cast crazy shadows over the white buildings and sidewalks. It is a real challenge to keep the camera steady for candid pictures but I am taking lessons from those mime artists that strike a pose and make like a statue. Then it is a further challenge to get detail in the white walls and deep shadows. I used Photomatix for tone mapping the tree exposure (-2, -1, 0) and Photoshop CS5 to get the maximum detail.
Thank you so much. Now that I have looked at your watercolours, I wonder if the same soft quality in this picture wasn’t what attracted you. Perhaps soft ‘transparent’ colours is something to explore in HDR.

Stunning. You captured that certain stunning magic that Stellenbosch has, a place I lived in as my children were schooled there. Beautiful! x
Thank you. For me Stellenbosch is where the grass is greener on this side of the fence. This one, and many others, were taken just twenty minutes from where I live on a morning stroll.
