Remove the colour by

This picture was nominated by Jacqueline Ison for the prestigious Pay It Forward group. In this group members nominate one favourite work of another artist. I also get the privilege, and incredibly difficult, opportunity to nominate one of my all time favourite favourites.
This is part of what Jacque wrote about Remove the Colour :
I find this work particularly compelling and feel, as with much of his work, it speaks volumes. It showcases Faul’s masterful technique with selective colouring, while gently nudging the viewer to look a little deeper. The image as rendered seemingly strips away masks and sleight of hand; the extraneous noise of the street, while laying bare the nuts and bolts….dare we say truth that lies within a given image/moment. This image is, in my opinion, so representative of Faul’s work in its seeming naked candid reveal of a moment in time we might otherwise have neglected to even notice.
I have also decided to start a new series of pictures where two different images are digitally combined into one as some kind of collage

After a comment by carol brandt on the picture below, I wrote that I took several pictures of the guy removing the poster and planned to use them somewhere else. It was easier said than done.

After selecting the appropriate target image and some masking and layering I realised the there are two variations possible by just copying some masks. Eventually I settled for the more pessimistic view but decided to include the “half full” point of view also.

It also belongs to my series of selective colouring, of course

It is so difficult to come up with different ideas and I think this one is just simply brilliant. Clever girl. Alma

  • Thanks Alma. Ideas come to me when I am very still. The angels come and leave the ideas, much like pigeons on a statue. Oh, and I am also greatly inspired by the other artists of RB. Faul.
