Tugboats in the mist by

V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa.

It is the result of tree exposure -2, -1, and 0, tone mapping in Photomatix where I was careful to avoid bright colours and too much contrast. Most of the further adjustments in Bridge and just a little bit in CS4.
Like it or not, I think you all will agree that the title is very original.

Another harbour scene just to the right of the tugboats. Could have been two pictures of a panorama.

Digital photography is doing for photography what the piano did for keyboard music. You can still play music composed for the harpsichord on the piano but not the other way around.

Very nice. I can almost hear the fog horns!

  • Now that you mention it, it was very quiet and I wonder if the foghorn is something of the past because of GPS.

Wow, do you have any idea what it feels like to be told that one of your pictures has been inspirational to someone else. It leaves me speechless!!
The only thing I have to say is that I love the stillness in your capture which to me, is exactly s in my own photo of the lake. Very serene, I love it!

  • In the end it is like comparing apples to carburettors, nature with machines, but they can both be strong entries for a challenge like “Tranquillity on the water” (Hosts, take note!)

Thank you for sharing your work with the Photomatix HDR Group. This wonderful example of a Photomatix-processed image has been accepted into the Group!

LOL Faul, that is a brilliant subject for a challenge!!
It is only now that I realize this is a HDR, you have done brilliantly in PP! Nothing over the top, yet much detail, awesome!!

  • Hi Marion, you don’t know how that not realising it is HDR please me! I think that HDR is where movies was just after the invention of sound when everybody made musicals. Sometimes I only include the HDR detail to make it eligible for the groups.

This is great work my friend. I did smile at the explanation of the shot, i should try some of those tree exposures. LOL

  • Thanks Gary. If I can remember, and it is more frequently lately, I check the pictures in the camera afterwards for blown out highlights (a handy feature). Soft light tend to overexpose large areas. Faul

    awesome my friend

  • Thanks Roni. Perhaps I should have mentioned that, instead of making it into a B&W, that I desaturated all the colours except the reds and yellows.

Outstanding FUN Faul! I really like this! Congratulations on the feature!!

  • Thank you. Yes, it is a lot of fun. None of the tree originals look remotely like the end result and to follow the images to a feature and comments is a pleasure indeed.
