At the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town on a lovely overcast day when the sun wasn’t very bright.
HDR work from a single RAW image in Photomatix. A lot of work in CS4 to remove the evidence that seagulls do not have much respect for figurehead art.

Digital photography is doing for photography what the piano did for keyboard music. You can still play music composed for the harpsichord on the piano but not the other way around.

Faul … she’s GORGEOUS!!!!!! And your photoshop work is magic … stunning and mysterious and eerily life-like!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Lois. I have taken many pictures of this mermaid over the years but they somehow always fall short perhaps because of the very hard sunlight in the harbour. It was probably the life-like properties, as you put it, that was lacking. Glad you like it.

This cleaned up nicely! Good job. :-) (No thanks to the seagulls).
Thank you, Nanagahma!

Whehehe, you had to do a bit of dusting?? Hmmm, she is loved by the gulls apparentl. But they shouldn’t sh*t on so beautiful a creature. Because she is gorgeous!! I love the way they did the hair and make up. This greenish tint in her face that is exactly how I have always imagined mermaids and merlads to look, a deep sea cold kind of skin. Lovely and mystical.
Oh, and I like the post processing too! Just that extra touch of detail!! The ropes look stunningly crisp, you can see the individual hairs in them! The only small suggestion I would like to make is to crop out that green thingy below her piggytail. It distracts me a bit. And I think you can quite easily get rid of it.
For the rest, wonderful picture, and a certain favourite!!!
There, I called her back into the studio and she gladly came and said, “I told you people will notice that horrid thingy below and that my close-up is cleaner than me”

Great shot – the last time I was there the birds were really not into this girl – stunning work!:)x
I asked her if I may post a picture with a seagull on her head, but she said she will think about it. This girl takes herself very seriously. Faul

oh, I just love this shot. I took some but nothing as beautiful as this : )
Thanks Heather. It was just after some rain (you can see drops on her arm) I think the soft light did it.

Beautiful capture Faul, great job of cleaning it up!!
Thanks Linda. Well, it’s like, “You give me a proper make-over or I won’t go! What do you think, I’m just a seagull perch? I have my dignity, you know”
