While the dry-dock of the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, was filling up these workers were taken off the ships. I think the crane operator saw me and decided to play a joke by suddenly lowering the platform until it just touched the water. The different reactions of the men, the colour of the newly painted boats and the reflection in the water make this one of my own personal all time favourites. (‘Splash and dash’ is a term from ballooning where they let the hot air out while over water and when the basket touch – the splash – the loss off weight make the balloon rise again – the dash.)

Digital photography is doing for photography what the piano did for keyboard music. You can still play music composed for the harpsichord on the piano but not the other way around.
