This is a very old graphite study (one of a series done when I was just fourteen!), taken from a photo.

It’s strange to look back at works like this and see how scratchy the pencil marks are! That said, I am still very proud of these drawings: they almost make me wonder if I could even still draw like that now!

Back when I created these studies, I was determined to make a living as a dedicated wildlife artist – a dream I later abandoned for various reasons.

I have recently realised that, regardless of the outcome, I need to return to doing what I love more than anything. These simple early sketches remind me of that and of the person I was back then (fourteen year old Alice was so much cooler than twenty-nine year old Alice! Aaargh!).
