4 Spitfires from 222 squadron take off in the early morning light to get some much needed flight time. 222 squadron was reformed at RAF Duxford flying Blenheim Mk.Ifs in the shipping protection role,4 but in March of the following year it re-equipped with Spitfires and became a day-fighter unit. It fought during the Battle of Britain, being based at RAF Hornchurch on 15 September 1940

    A fine sight. Dear old MH434 has peculiar markings though, the way it is currently painted. Very odd roundels on the wings and, as here, the fuselage.
