I wandered into Borders in Melbourne Central the other day to suss out what they might have on digital art. Specifically, painting in Photoshop. The computer books were in one corner and the art books in the opposite corner.

Why?

I’ve reached the point where I realize that I must learn to draw if I want to improve as an artist. Frankly, at drawing I suck. Why do you think I took up photography? Anyway, I bit the bullet and went to it with my usual approach – buy a few likely books on the subject.

Getting it Right in Camera

I attended a fantastic workshop yesterday, given by Peter Coulson (koukei) with model Anne Duffy. What a team. Anne is a very versatile model, as the images I’ve uploaded recently will show – fine art nude, pinup, glamour, fashion, all done to perfection. And continuous, fluid posing. Wow. Hard not to get a good image.

Meet Suzanne

Suzanne is the Blender mascot. I’ve just been working through a tutorial on UV Mapping and Texture Painting, using a mesh that comes with the Blender distribution. My mesh modelling is not up to that level yet. It’s not a wonderful image, but a nice simple example of what can be achieved fairly easily with 3D application…
