Artifact
All they knew was that the object in front of them was not, could not, be man-made. The intricate design and alien symbols all over it pulsed slowly, with a sound like the beating of a strange creature’s heart while in hibernation. When touched, the beating grew faster, the lights shone brighter. A massive roar of sound bellowed out of the device, echoing on the far walls of the enormous cavern. The object’s symbols flared, the brilliant light washing over everything. The light subsided. The research team was gone. The device grew silent again, its slow, rhythmic pulse the only light or sound in the vast darkness.
