Amazing painting
Avril Brand
Thanks Linda!
Macky
Wonderful, you didn’t forget the Ox Pecker :-)
Avril Brand
Thanks Macky… :-) the ox pecker is obligatory, of course – I had two at first, the other one was just behind the right horn but he disappeared.
barnsis
Excellent the head on stare is riveting, it makes you feel that it is about to charge. Very well done
Avril Brand
Thanks barnsis! If this buffalo were real, it would be the last thing you see! Very, very dangerous animal and reputed to be the only animal capable of ‘revenge’. When hurt, or wounded it will seek out the cause of its pain.

And yet…...a little bird will sit on his head :o) Nature is a wonder isn’t it. I love these guys because I always think their horns look like a blonde’s hairdo from the 60’s :o) Just look at that face! Sheesh! Wonderful painting…shows the strength and fierceness of the animal.
Avril Brand replied
The little oxpecker often warns the animal if danger is near. Although it does a very good job cleaning parasites like ticks, It is not always so innocent though, as it will feed on the animal’s blood and open wounds. I loved painting this buffalo… the face and strength is great to paint as it has so much character.

A truly wonderful painting, Avril! The strength of this animal is RAW and Primal!
You have shown us that! Prehistoric man admired this animal very much…
Avril Brand replied
Thank you, Helua. The buffalo is not always seen as a glamorous animal.. but to me it epitomises strength and power.

This is stunning, you are such a talented artist. In the past few years I took some classes to learn traditional oil painting. I have also travelled extensively through Africa and love these images dearly.
Avril Brand replied
Thank you Lisa… painting animals is a wonderful way to use every skill you can muster! From the tiniest hairs to pasting with a palette knife… this buffalo has everything you need to test yourself. Yes… once you have been in Africa, you can never forget the smells, sights and sounds.. it will be with you forever!
Denise Martin
He does look pretty mean, Avril – I think the wildlife artist Simon Coombes was killed by one of these, If I remember correctly? Do you know his work – wonderful artist, grew up in Africa, and was very experienced?
Olitto
You painted this very well. Needless to mention that you are such a talented artist. I love these animals. Those characteristics you mentioned all seem to be presented in the way you portrayed it with your paintwork. Well done!
