Glimmer of Blue

Childhood
It’s creased and tattered photographs
Linger in selective memory
Seated on daddy’s lap
Triumphant smile
Competition at rest
Of her endless quest
For attention

She grows
Gradually disenchanted
One little shock at a time
The downward spiral, spinning wild
The monsters, the cancers
The color coated candy answers
The maggots in the pie
Don’t hurt the children
Buzz the hornets, rioting
In her pretty, gifted head

Her confessional pen
So good for the soul
Too late, so lost
Too soon the cost
The jagged edges of a diamond
Implode
And shattered beauty
Leaves a rose
