The Light of Shadow

I remember your sweet puppy kisses
As you showered me from head to toe
I remember the way that you saved me
On the saddest day I’ve ever known

I had flown so far to Alaska
My mom became ill on a trip
It was the year she began dying
Was the year we adopted you Zip

Sensing I was all too desperate
On the day I returned from so far
You stuck close and became my shadow
The sweet, loving dog that you are

The year ended up being tragic
Your unwavering joy brought me cheer
Through all of the pain and the madness
Precious friend, you were always there

Not just a dog, you’re my hero
Still my shadow, so loyal and true
I’m grateful and love you so deeply
A gift from above that is you

(Also, we could never decide on a name so he had a few, his ‘legal’ name was Kodi, named after the Kodiac Bear from Alaska.)

yes, horribly sad the whole story but very true. and the day I returned my puppy then, was so happy to see me I sat on the floor and absorbed his love while he peed all over me – he was so excited!
