Possum in the Gums on a Chopping Board by

Pyrography or woodburning onto a Camphor Laurel chopping board. 12" across at the widest point. (30 cms).

Camphor Laurel is a weed around here (Gold Coast, Qld). I was given a few chopping boards that were going to be thrown out, because they did not sell at the markets. After reading up on the dangers this wood can be to children, I thought it should not be used for food. So this one is an experiment to see how it would look hanging in the kitchen.

I would be interested in your opinions. (My husband said it looks like bat wings). LOL.

Hi, my name is Robyn J. Blackford. I am a retired nurse who loves photography, pyrography and writing. I live with my husband in the rainforest of Tallebudgera Valley in Queensland, Australia.

All my photos are what I see through the lens.

This is beautiful… what a lovely piece of art! Absolutely love your use of a chopping board as your canvas… so creative! By the way, I totally agree with your husband… when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a bat!

  • LOL. Yes, it still looks like bat wings, hanging in our kitchen. Thank you SO much for your awesome comment. Sorry this reply is late…don’t know how I missed it. The comments usually come through my email. Saw this when I replied to the next comment below. Love your work, by the way. Robyn :)

I reckon it looks great,i think some detail above his head would be nice only because in the little thumnail picture i first saw i thought he was a bat too, lol…Deej.

  • Hi Deej, LOL. Yes, I wondered that myself. It was just the possum at first, but it looked so bare. Then I added the gum leaves and saw the wings. So I added the nuts…sigh. After it had been waxed, there was no going back to add or change it. Burning has to be done on a clean sanded surface. Great learning curve. Thanks for your visit and comment. Much appreciated. Robyn :)
