“Australia’s well known dangerous spider.” “The female’s scarlet stripe is a clear warning not to touch. Redbacks are common but timid, and bite only if they are handled.” “A bite from a male can produce a mild reaction, but a bite from a female can be painful enough to cause hysteria.” "Males are much smaller than females and their maikings are more subdued. Stunning image of a beautiful, yet frightening creature!
    This is a woodburning?

  • Thanks Pam for your comment; yes this is a woodburning, some people call it ‘poker art’. I did the red part with acrylic paint. Robyn.

You really nailed the 3-dimensional look here. Beautiful if a bit scary image. :-)

  • Thanks Marlene :) Scary is right, I won’t go anywhere near them. Robyn.

This one is truly amazing, it’s so lifelike, and I like the “one leg raised” touch :) Beautiful work Robyn.

  • Thanks Alan, I copied this from a photograph…the redback was about to move forward. I love using shadows. I am delighted that you noticed the “one leg raised” and I appreciate your visit. Robyn :)
