FEATURED in The Birds, August 29, 2012

I’ve heard this hawk many times, but this is the first time I got to see it. It was on a utility post on the street next to mine, and of course I had to stop and get a few shots. It looks like it has an injured or deformed wing, but it does fly around quite well. Usually when I hear it, it’s up in the trees out of my sight. I was on my way out to try to find some wildlife to photograph with my new point and shoot, curious about the zoom capability, when this opportunity popped up! Taken in Dunnellon, Florida.

If anyone can identify what kind of hawk this is, I’d appreciate the info. I thought it might be a red-tailed hawk, but I don’t see any red in that tail!
