There’s a beautiful “super” moon out there tonight, 5/5/12. I almost forgot that I was going to try to get a shot of it. The sky is very clear. I wished I had a longer lens and the knowledge of how best to shoot a moon.

In this version, I artificially enlarged the image in Photoshop to see what it would look like. This version not for sale.

Having lived most of my life in the northeast U.S., I am enjoying retired life in sunny Florida. I enjoy photographing many different kinds of things, but especially flowers and animals, including the beautiful birds found here in Florida. I am currently using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D camera, a Canon 55-250 mm telescopic zoom lens, and a Sony P10 Cyber-shot digital camera. My newest acquisition is a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, a point and shoot which I will be carrying in my purse.

Awesome!!! Is that what it is called?! My mom called me to go out this
evening and shoot the moon . . . I had no idea it was a “special moon!!”

  • I did read a headline that said Supermoon 2012, so I guess that’s what they call this extra bright full moon.

Wonderful capture Dot, it is still out there pretty close, but now it is white. I wish I would have gone out earlier, but I forgot about it.

  • When I looked at it, it looked white, but it came out this color when I put it in the computer. The camera always seems to see things differently than I do! LOL

Our moon was clear early on but the clouds came over but I was lucky enough it get it early. I set mine at 11/125 on my 300mm lens. Read on a Pentax forum to play around with these sort of settings on manual. I cropped mine a little too. Nice shot

  • Thank you, Barb. Must learn my camera settings better one of these days!

I awoke at 1 a.m. this morning, it was shining through the blinds, I looked out , it was orange, and still very large.I didn’t take a picture though, my camera wouldn’t have done it justice, this is a great shot of it , Dot !

  • Thank you so much, Elfie. A longer lens would have given me a bigger moon, but 250 is the maximum I have. I was lucky to get it this well, as I didn’t use a tripod.
