A lone dead tree in a field in Dunnellon, Florida. To me it is still a beautiful tree.

FEATURED in One Tree at a Time, Oct. 4, 2012

The Sentinel

Having lived most of my life in the northeast U.S., I am enjoying retired life in sunny Florida. I enjoy photographing many different kinds of things, but especially flowers and animals, including the beautiful birds found here in Florida. I am currently using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D camera, a Canon 55-250 mm telescopic zoom lens, and a Sony P10 Cyber-shot digital camera. My newest acquisition is a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, a point and shoot which I will be carrying in my purse.

Love it Dot! I often shoot old trees like this one! I think somehow they represent a part of the past that refuses to die!!

  • I’ve passed this tree so many times and finally had my hubby stop the car for a couple of shots. It reminds me of stubborness and, like you said, refusing to die, thus the title. Just happened to be a pretty sky, too. Thanks so much, Ruth!

Just beautiful, Dot — very simple, but very effective. Perfect composition, and love that sky!

  • Thank you so much, Monnie. I have a b/w image of the same tree, just a little different, that I’ll put up next.

Isn’t it funny…or strange of us…to pass something a hundred times and then just one day…….we decide to stop!

  • Yes, and sometimes it’s a matter of traffic. This day we could take the time to ease off the road onto the wide grassy shoulder. So glad I FINALLY got that tree!

It has a lovely shape, and looks beautiful against the sky. I love your composition, Dot.

  • Thank you so much, Judy. This tree has been calling out for me to photograph it for a long time. Finally, a day when we could stop along the road.
