This one is for Gina (whalegeek), whose whale images are the real thing and are all outstanding. View Gina’s work here and don’t miss her albatrosses!

The original photo is not mine. This is based on a free download photo of a breaching, barnacle-encrusted gray whale. I used the Wave filter in Photoshop and finally got it pretty much the way I wanted it — not too realistic, but not too fragmented either. Then I posterized it, which brought out the colors in the sky area.

Having lived most of my life in the northeast U.S., I am enjoying retired life in sunny Florida. I enjoy photographing many different kinds of things, but especially flowers and animals, including the beautiful birds found here in Florida. I am currently using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D camera, a Canon 55-250 mm telescopic zoom lens, and a Sony P10 Cyber-shot digital camera. My newest acquisition is a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, a point and shoot which I will be carrying in my purse.

Well, Dot, you may call this an _UN_whale but to me it certainly looks unmistakably like a breaching whale…:-)) The energy and jubilance of a whale breach shines through your abstracted work. You did well. I still don’t know how you do this! A wonderful piece. I wish I could Favorite more than the one time I am allowed. I think this should be in the Dolphins & Whales group as well for a different look at whales. Thank you for the very kind link to my portfolio, Dot. How exceptionally thoughtful of you to share your kindness with others. All the best to you, Gina

  • Ah, thank you so much, my friend. I’m glad you like my version of a whale. The closest I’ll ever get to a real one is through your photos and those of other talented whale watchers on RB. I thank you so much for your support and your favoriting this child’s play! I did join Dolphins & Whales and will submit this there now. Thanks for the heads up about the group!
