My attempt to add texture to a photo of my fading roses. I used a washed out version of one of my tree bark photos as the background, and I think it makes a pretty good texture.

Photos taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XSI/450 camera, and all editing done in Picasa3, a free download

Having lived most of my life in the northeast U.S., I am enjoying retired life in sunny Florida. I enjoy photographing many different kinds of things, but especially flowers and animals, including the beautiful birds found here in Florida. I am currently using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D camera, a Canon 55-250 mm telescopic zoom lens, and a Sony P10 Cyber-shot digital camera. My newest acquisition is a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, a point and shoot which I will be carrying in my purse.

Dot, I think I like this the best out of the series. I think the background helps set the feel of the picture. Good work!

  • Chris, thank you so much for your helpful remarks. I’ve pretty much found my way around Picasa3, and you can do more in that free program than I ever thought you could.

Breathtaking presentation!!! Love the wonderful look of these beauties!!! xx

  • I still have them. They are totally dried and very tiny — in a shot glass! I hate to throw flowers away. Sometimes you get a few that will stay this way. Thanks for your lovely comment, Maxy!

  • Thanks Morag. It’s an early experiment for me, but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Very nice image. Whatever you did in post editing has certainly not hurt the photo. It is simply beautiful. The end is worth the means!
    Liz

  • Thank you, Liz, for your lovely comment! The roses image is not quite as sharp as the original, but not too bad. I wanted that fading look anyway.

Beautifully done, the layers and the elegance of that flower are wonderful.

  • Thanks so much Kim. New to textures, so this is one of my first. I’m still working in Picasa3 — don’t have a clue how to start Photoshop!
