Safe Now With Mom by AuntDot

Canon PowerShot SX260 HS; 1/125s, f/5.6, ISO 800, focal length 55.4mm

The rather long and wooded entrance road to the Rainbow Springs State Park near Dunnellon, Florida, provides a safe haven for deer, turtles, and other wildlife. These two fawns were lagging behind their mother, but caught up with her quickly. I didn’t expect to see them today, as the park is filled with people on this warm Saturday. Fortunately, drivers respect the slow speed limits and keep an eye out for the wildlife in the area. What a thrill it was for me to be able to photograph these beautiful deer, especially as I was in the car on the far side, leaning over my husband, and shooting out the window.

FEATURED in Florida the Sunshine State, July 26, 2013

Having lived most of my life in the northeast U.S., I am enjoying retired life in sunny Florida. I enjoy photographing many different kinds of things, but especially flowers and animals, including the beautiful birds found here in Florida. I am currently using a Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D camera, a Canon 55-250 mm telescopic zoom lens, and a Sony P10 Cyber-shot digital camera. My newest acquisition is a Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, a point and shoot which I will be carrying in my purse.

Wow – you hit the jackpot with this one, Dot! Outstanding “catch!”

  • Thanks, Monnie. Thank goodness for zoom lenses on these new point & shoots. I didn’t really see very well what I had captured until I uploaded it into the computer and cropped it some.
