The Unremarkable Door

Another old door
Abandoned and worn
The chips and dings of Time ground into its threshold .

No one stopped to sit upon its stoop
Or press the rusted lock
Or peek within the mail slot.

No one read the graffiti
Or knew the door was always unlocked.
It just stood still.
Silently waiting.

Waiting for the one desperate hand with a heart full of despair
The one that needed a place where they would not be found.
A place to hide from the hurt and shame.

For who would look here?
At another old door
Ordinary and uninviting
With graffiti on the wall
