The original charcoal drawing was done in a clothed model drawing art class. I immediately grew fond of this guy, especially when he whipped out the trike for this pose as part of his western theme. I decided to capture a scene from behind – the end result is that of an all too familiar image of a cowboy riding off into the sunset, sans faithful horse. It was timed posed, meaning I had only 10 minutes to sketch him before he changed positions.
Brady’s part in the piece is a finger painting over cut-outs of construction paper. I found the yellow to be very vibrant, but with an orange hue giving the appearance of the sun as it were setting. I played with the angles of his artwork and made it seem like the cowboy was riding into a valley with sun in the right corner casting red shadows onto the clouds… one cloud, in particular, forms into a hand ;)
